YEAR 3 (ALDER)

Teacher:  Mr Lewis
Welcome to Year 3 Alder.

We work enthusiastically across all the elements of the broad and balanced curriculum we experience. From developing our Maths skills using a range of practical resources to playing with words and improving our writing. To Investigating the world around us in Science and Geography. We immerse ourselves into the life of the Stone Age and The Romans. Our ‘Wow’ days have taken us back in time!

We work together as a team discussing and sharing our ideas. We aim to encourage and nurture each other during our journey together in Year 3.

Year 3 Autumn Update

Alder Class : A busy term of learning and fun.
During the Autumn term, Year 3 have been working hard on a variety of engaging topics and challenges.  In English we have written fables and created a non-fiction text all about our dream jobs.  In Maths we have been learning about place value, addition and subtraction.  Science has seen us investigate forces and magnets as well as finding out about human bones and muscles.
The class has created some amazing art- work exploring different textures and rubbings.  Geography took us all over the world finding out why so many people live in megacities.  In History we travelled back in time to discover what life was like during the stone age.  In PE we have improved our rugby and gymnastic skills as well as receiving some excellent cricket and football coaching.  In Music we have been playing the djembe drums, exploring lots of different rhythms and patterns.

Year 3 2025-2026

In Year 3 we have started our new History topic finding out all about life in during the Stone Age.  We have been looking at different sources and discussing what these can tell us about the Stone Age and what it was like to live then.  In Science our topic of 'Humans Including Animals' has enabled us to start conducting some exciting practical investigations. We will be finding out about skeletons, muscles and joints.  In English will be adapting poetry to help us write our own poems.  We are now using the book 'Not Lost' by John Bond to write our own narrative stories.  We have been using drama activities and exploring lots of new vocabulary to help us.  In PE we are developing our Cricket skills and investigating different types of dance movement.  This term we are looking forward to our Stone Age WOW day.
Year 3 recently dove into the world of science with an exciting investigation focused on unravelling the mysteries of different rocks. Picture curious minds buzzing with excitement as we explored the unique properties of each rock. With hands-on experimentation, we delved into the textures, colours, and characteristics, transforming our classroom into a hub of scientific discovery.
But that's not all! Our journey continued with an explosive Volcano Wow Day that transported us into the heart of seismic adventures. Through the magic of movement and drama, Year 3 became budding geologists, absorbing knowledge about earthquakes and volcanoes in a way that was not just educational but downright exhilarating!

Stone Age WOW Day

Year 3 stepped back in time to the Stone Age recently with their Stone Age Wow Day. Not only did they explore Stone Age clothing, but they made jewellery from clay, created their own cave paintings and tasted a selection of berries.
