ATTENDANCE and school hours
Good attendance in school is vital for every child's development and progress both socially and academically.
We aim for every child to achieve 96% attendance each year.
We will support Parents with attendance if required and promote regular attendance with our children.
School doors open at 8:45 am and learning starts at this time. Registration for the morning session is at 8:55am and for the afternoon session at 1/1:05pm. The day ends at 3:15pm. The total time this amounts to in a typical week is 32.5 hours (6.5 hours a day) and it is important that children are at school for this time.
Please ensure your child is on time for school, as lateness disrupts their start to the school day and also disrupts the work of the school office. Please also arrange medical appointments out of school hours as we do not want any child is miss valuable learning time.
A child is defined as having arrived late (an L mark) if they arrive between 9:05am and 9:15am. If they arrive after 9:15am then they will be given a U mark (arrived after registers have closed). A U mark counts as an unauthorised absence. Please note that changes in Hertfordshire County Council's attendance regulations means that a fixed penalty notice can be sent to both Parents if a child has 10 or more unauthorised marks in a rolling 10 week period. More information on the new regulations can be found below.
Your child may be invited to Booster sessions or clubs outside of these hours. Further information about the school day can be found in the prospectus. There is a Breakfast Club run by Premier Education. Please see our Premier Wrap Around Care page.

NEW ATTENDANCE REGULATIONS
From August 2024 the way Hertfordshire County Council regulates school attendance has changed. Essentially what you need to know is:
- Unless there is an exceptional circumstance, holidays during term time will not be authorised.
- Having 10 or more unauthorised marks across 10 rolling weeks can result in a fixed penalty notice.
- Each day consists of two sessions; AM and PM. This means that missing one day of school without a valid reason can lead to your child having two unauthorised marks.

We will always endeavour to support our Parents in any way we can. If you are worried about your child's attendance, please come and see Mrs Palmer in the school office or email your concerns to [email protected]
