Introduction
A very warm welcome to our school.
This information has been written especially for you, as a parent to our school, and sets out everything you need to know about Friends of Oughton School, which is a significant part of our school life.
If you are a new parent to the school and have any questions, please talk to one of our committee members, or ask your class teacher or the school office. You can also email us with any queries at [email protected]
Why do we have the Friends of Oughton School?
We are very fortunate at our school to have a PTA that is such a big part of the school community. In its time it has raised funds which have been spent on improving equipment and resources to help with our children’s education and the facilities in school. The Friends of Oughton also helped towards the cost of fun activities like annual trips to the pantomime & provide fun activities that the kids love to attend like the Summer Fayre, school Disco’s & many other events across the year.
But it is so much more than just fundraising. The Friends of Oughton School exists to provide closer links between home & school to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of our school community. All parents are automatically members of the Friends of Oughton School when their children join our school and we would love to have you get involved if you wish.
The Friends of Oughton School is extremely conscious of the ethos and morals of our school. We try very hard when organising and planning events to respect this. Not all of our events are run with the sole purpose of raising funds. Sometimes they are run to give the children a good time and as a way of thanking families for their continued support.
Links with local business
We have, over time, developed strong links with the local community and are always well supported by both residents and businesses, for which we are very grateful. If you know of any business that would be interested in supporting our school please speak to one of the committee members. The Friends of Oughton is a registered Charity, number 1175892.
Role of the committee
There are four Friends of Oughton School core committee Officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary). We also have at least 4 other committee members to make up the full committee (including teachers). They meet on a regular basis, usually once per half term. A list of current Friends of Oughton School committee members is at the back of the booklet. If you are interested in joining the committee, please come and talk to us or drop us an email, we really would love to hear from you. We all fully understand that volunteering has to fit around everybody’s busy lives & we are grateful for anything you feel able to offer.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Our AGM is held at the beginning of the academic year and this is an opportunity for all parents to come along and hear in more detail about past and future events, funds raised and how the money has and will be spent. It is also when we elect our new committee.
How we raise money
Like most PTAs, the majority of our funds are raised through the events that we run. Some of our popular events are:
The success of our fundraising activities is enhanced by donations and these are extremely important. These can be time, money, items for sale, prizes for raffles or offers of services and skills. Even small donations make a big difference to us. We’re always on the lookout for other good fundraising ideas so be sure to let us know if you have any suggestions. The school website and Facebook page are updated regularly. Please find us on facebook as Friends of Oughton School (PTA).
What are we raising money for?
The money raised by Friends of Oughton School goes towards things that will benefit the children directly.
Our current focus for fundraising is to provide refurbishment of our wonderful school pond & Allotment area. We also hope to help with funding towards some Forest school activities for the children in school.
How you can get involved
There are lots of ways you can help and support your child through the Friends of Oughton School. We welcome any help with events e.g. wrapping gifts, manning a stall, baking cakes etc.
You can help by letting us know if you have any contacts or skills we could use. You could also become a member of the committee and then you can provide fundraising ideas to the committee and finally, we are always extremely grateful to receive donations.
We hope you now know a little more about the Friends of Oughton School. On behalf of all the children we would like to thank you for your very valuable support which enriches their learning experiences and makes their time in school even more enjoyable.
