Year 3 roman day

June 2021 saw Year 3 going back in time to the Roman era. Dressed in Roman clothing, they made Roman numeral dice, Roman coins from clay, created their own mosaics as well as recreating models of Roman soldiers in chariots. Finally, after such a packed day, they relaxed over an outdoor Roman feast.

Year 5 aztec wow day

Year 5 enjoyed a range of activities on their Design and Technology Aztec wow day in June.
Not only did they design their own chocolate bar but they also had the opportunity to make and taste chocolate like the Aztecs used to do.

latest allotment video

After a lot of hard work by the children, our plants have flourished.  Well done to everyone.

YEAR 4 SCIENCE ORCHESTRA DAY 20TH MAY 2021

As part of their Science topic ‘Sound’ Year 4 ED and RH made their own instruments for homework and shared their work with the class. They showed how their instrument was able to make high and low pitch sounds, different instruments do this in different ways. They played their instruments to The Beatles’ song ‘Blackbird’, also they composed their own songs and music about the topic ‘Sound’ too.
They used their scientific knowledge to plan and carry out a fair test about sound absorption. A band needed their help to find the best material to line their studio with, so the neighbours wouldn’t complain! It was great fun, working together and measuring the sound with the decibel reader.

GARDENING

The stage is now set ready for the growing season ahead - take a glimpse inside our garden/ allotment to see all the hard work that has been put in already this term by clicking on the video below.

Children across the school will be visiting our garden this term, as they go beyond the more traditional setting of their classroom to our outdoor classroom.

Pop back here as the term progresses for updates on how gardening has given the children across the school hands-on learning opportunities while increasing their environmental awareness as well as experiences of problem-solving - particularly if we have to consider how to contend with the local wildlife eating our growing plants! They will also learn more about nutrition by helping them to make the connection between growing food and balanced diets as they experience a real-time look at how food is grown.

Fingers crossed for a bumper harvest as the term moves on. Watch out for messages advertising freshly picked fruit and vegetables to buy for those family feasts.

THANK  YOU

The staff and children would like to say a big thank you to members of the Tilehouse Rotary Club for giving up their time to help out in our garden on Saturday. From cutting back overhanging branches to provide more light for the area, to stabilising our mounting compost corner, to wrestling with ivy and creating new container beds for further fruit plants, a huge amount was achieved. Plus, due to the donation of plants, the children have got more things to plant out in the next week to help brighten up the area and encourage wildlife. Their support is very much appreciated and has made a vast difference to our garden.

A massive thank you to Tesco in Baldock for their incredibly generous donation of free plants. For all those of you who come onto site, you will have seen that the children have started planting out already, in between rain downpours and, we are sure you will agree, the school site is looking considerably brighter already.
