ETHOS AND VALUES

The DfE have recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

At Oughton our school ethos is to ensure that these values are reinforced regularly through all areas of our curriculum, including PSHE.  We follow the 'Jigsaw' PSHE curriculum, following themes of Being Me in My World, Celebrating Difference, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships and Changing Me each half term.  Within this, each week an assembly focus is chosen following the theme.  We also promote the British Values of Democracy, the Rule of Law, Tolerance, Mutual Respect and Individual Liberty in lessons and assemblies each week.

We also celebrate and promote British Values and Culture through special days and assemblies, such as Harvest Festival, Scarecrow Festival, St George’s Day, Remembrance Day, Christmas, Christmas Carol Service, Christmas Tree Festival, Valentine Celebration (often focusing on the love for learning), Easter Assembly and Egg Hunts, Mother’s Day to name a few.

Rev Jane Robson, a school Governor, is involved in assemblies and is our link governor for PSHE and RE.

Please read the document below to see more detail of how we promote British Values.
