HOME LEARNING

PARENTS IN PARTNERSHIP SESSIONS

Education has changed over the years and how you were taught as a child may be different to how the curriculum is delivered now. To help parents understand aspects of the curriculum and how they can support their children, we hold Parents In Partnership sessions throughout the year. Parents will be invited to join other parents in their child's class to learn and ask questions about an aspect of the curriculum, for example written calculations, SATs preparation. The sessions may be in class with the children, or separate but parents can be assured that their knowledge is not being tested! We urge parents to attend these sessions wherever possible.

PHONICS PROGRAMME

At Oughton Primary and Nursery School we teach Phonics following a systematic synthetic phonics programme based on Little Wandle and the National Curriculum.

Please see more information about Reading and Phonics under Curriculum and then English.

READING SCHEME

We use a range of schemes such as the Oxford Reading Tree and Collins Big Cat plus fiction/non-fiction books.  Our books are banded according to level.  Children move onto 'free reading' when they become independent readers.

Our aim is for children to enjoy reading.
Please see more information about Reading and Phonics under Curriculum and then English.

Mathematics and WRITTEN CALCULATION POLICY

Teaching methods change over time in Maths.
Please see more information about Maths and the Calculation Policy under Curriculum and then Mathematics.

The Calculation Policy has lots of colour pictures which help to explain the way we teach calculations at Oughton.
