GOVERNORS
WHAT DOES THE GOVERNING BODY DO?
The Role of the Governing Body
Governors are part of the Leadership and Management of the school, working within Department for Education and Local Authority guidelines and the law, which states that the purpose of maintained school governing bodies is to 'conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement at the school’.
In order to do this, the Department for Education is looking to all governing bodies to have a strong focus on three core strategic functions:
The role of a governor is to contribute to the work of the governing body in ensuring high standards of achievement for all children in the school. The governing body however are not responsible for the day to day management of the school; that is the job of the headteacher and their senior staff.
