To start off our World Book Day celebrations, the children were lucky enough to see a performance of the classic story of Pinocchio. They joined in with helping Pinocchio on his journey, crossing their fingers to help him when he was in trouble. Once the rest of the school had watched the performance, Year 6 were able to find out more about how the performance was put on - learning about the scenery changes, the props and the different characters.

Year 5 and 6 Author Visit - 8th January 2025 On 8th January, Years 5 and 6 were lucky enough to meet Elizabeth Barber, a Hertfordshire-based author, who came to talk about her book called ‘Barber Stone Arrows’. Set in the Stone Age, we learned about the characters Zeta and Flin and were introduced to some of their adventures. Elizabeth shared that her inspiration for her story was a 9,000-year-old flint scraper found in a garden. The children also heard about the need for conflict or a problem and cliffhangers in a story. The key message from the visit was how reading (a range of genres) is the best way to become a writer: the reader in the writer. What object can you find that could inspire a story? What book will you read today to help improve your writing skills? We wanted to say a massive thank you for coming and supporting the school at our Winter Wonderland event. We had such a great turnout and a lovely afternoon filled with games, laughter and a visit from Father Christmas! The event raised a massive £760 for the school. Congratulations again to our Christmas Tree competition winners, year 2! Well done also to Year 5 who came in second and Year 6 who came in third. |
